Depending on frequency of harvests and fertilizing, Petite Rouge cos lettuce matures 6-10 inches tall and 8-10 inches wide. Produces a slightly smaller head compared to Iceberg varieties, but boasts soft and tender Bibb-like leaves. Harvest outer leaves first to allow Petite Rouge to continue maturing, growing new tender growth on the inside of the plant. Because lettuce seeds do not mature to produce fruit, Petite Rouge thrives from nitrogen rich fertilizers that promote vegetative growth over fruiting.
